Then to the break as the
Apples similarly dispatched the Rain Men, putting on 143 and again putting
the game away in the first innings, but blimey that first innings took some
time. It was like the Saturday on tour, we chatted for a bit, ate some
properly delicious pizza, chatted some more, got a bit sunburnt, had a few
beers and they were still only in the sixth over.

main event of the day, the race to avoid the wooden spoon. This was a much
more evenly matched affair. During the Rain Men’s innings, a series of
milestones fell in The Mad ranks. Gary becomes just the third member of the
300 club and Andy bought up his ton of wickets. Even Geoff chipped in with
his first wicket in (checks website*) somewhere between 12 and 15 years. With three retirees at
the top of the order the Rain Men made 98, which seemed about par.
The Rain Dudes. In
reply Paddy showed what we’ve been missing in the several years since he last
graced our ranks. Actually, what he’s been missing is the ball. Bowled for a
duck third ball. After that J Shaw (25 n.o.) Jake
(13), Shorten (17 n.o) and Darley (20 n.o) powered us to victory as last orders was called for
the pizza. All over in the twelfth over. After
that we got our chat on a bit more, there was some very short but generous
speeches and then it was back off home for dinner, which in several cases was
more pizza.
