After the previous
Wednesday's cricketing fiasco, it was nice to decamp somewhere afresh and
play a friendly T20 in the spirit it should most certainly be played in. For
the second time this season, Harwell proved great hosts, no little spirit and
were generous enough to donate a fielder in lieu of The MAD’s absent eleventh
man. Captain Lego returned to
the helm, quickly decided to bowl without a coin toss, received numerous
moans about cricketing etiquette, then agreed to a coin toss, duly lost and
found his side in the field anyway. That’s that sorted then.
Turner watches a red round thing being hurled. With a journey time of
less than six hours of moaning, Hoskins made himself available for this
evening match and soon demanded the ball. He bowled pretty good too, having
S. Ub catch his lone wicket in returning impressive figures of 1-25 off 4.
The skipper also excelled in his first stint, castling keeper Manwani to have
the hosts on 15-2. Thereafter, the visitors
chucked down plenty of wides (2 runs and no extra ball), a smorgasbord of
hittable shite and had to wait until the 16th over to see Ainsworth pick up
the next wicket (Hotson claiming the Moet Et Chandon with a routine catch at
mid-off). This dismissal was so routine as to be forgotten minutes later, but
in a match where The MAD produced bugger all memorable moments, this one got
the vote and plenty of laughs post-match.
It must be noted that
although there were no Fizzy moments with which to tell the kids, there was a
MAD Moment that will surely be re-enacted at the end of season AGM. This
would involve a ball pumped to the boundary, across a car park and into some
bushes, calmly retrieved by Mr Rundle in 1st gear, who trotted back and then
in the process of returning said ball, simply tossed the fucker into a
tree.... Pure comedy and an absolute joy for everyone who bore witness.
Amusing that Psycho was wearing hit cap back-to-front at the time. Harwell would eventually
top out on 164-3 with a couple of retirees (30 end of over), thus setting the
FFTMCC the basic ask of a nudge above 8 an over for a superb, morale
inflating victory before Tour (ahem).
Harris and Shorten discussing doing something. Having returned to the
side after selfishly opting to organise his private life in recent months,
Lee watched Howarth fuck about being dropped on his way to scoring a majestic
single. Turner has also batted well in previous times, but here though he
quickly aligned with Spam in joining the chorus of “pink balls suck” and left
for 4. Hotson and Roberts were undone by the pie of the wily Boag (2-13) and
with Lego losing his mind, JMO his brain and Ainsworth retiring (34*) it all
looked pretty crap at 69-6. Step forth the
laughingstock of the earlier fielding campaign (Rundle 29*), who after
negotiating ten balls doing Fanny Adam, sprung into life, coaxing Mr Harris
at the other end for a warming and titillating combo that produced 60
unbroken runs. It was never going to be a defining run-chase that ended in a
triumphant firework display, but it was a great effort nonetheless and The
MAD's T20 partnership record for the 7th wicket is now theirs to keep.
Runders giving it some humpty. Match done and dusted,
Harwell did themselves proud post-match by organising a spread of seven
deluxe family-sized pizzas for the players to chew down on whilst talking
shit amongst themselves. This was a lovely touch and only JMO Hoskins was
slightly perturbed as he was found eating food from a competitor (the shame).
Cordy (inset with green cap) – queen of
organisation. If you read this
diatribe of nonsense Mr Boag and Cordy, let me say that chance meeting at
Wantage & Grove back in May was written in the stars. We thank you for
the matches this year and very much look forward to inking you people in for
next year. The very best to your team for the remainder of this season. So, that’s a wrap,
ladies and gentlemen, following an arsing, a cancellation, another defeat and
a further cancellation, this was the final MAD action in readiness for the
Minehead Tour. As ever, the touring squad would be subsequently announced to
a frenzy of waiting media…. The
